Collective Identity

1) Read the article and summarise each section in one sentence, starting with the section 'Who are you?'

The first section talks about how you can create an identity for yourself in different ways which is explained in the section, it also talks about how certain people may want to be seen in different ways.
The second section talks about how people are in different ways, the way they are classed and seen by others, some of the examples are race for example, from the colour of their skin and their ethnic background from where they originated from.
The third section talks about how the audiences and the people have their needs, their needs and what they want coming from them watching advertisements that advertise something fashionable and would make the audience desire it and then lead them into buying what is for sale.
The fourth section talks about the rise of an individual on how they would make themselves look unique and stand out from other people, by doing their own thing and being different to others.
The fifth section talks and tells us about how people will go to buy products and what they see on advertisements. They will buy these things as a reflection of themselves which show people who they are and what they are all about.

2) List five brands you are happy to be associated with and explain how they reflect your sense of identity.
I would like to be associated with Nike sports wear, as I am a sports man who likes to train, by wearing their clothing it would show that I am a fit individual who works out. The second brand I'd like to be associated with is Beats by Dre, this is because I am in to music and enjoy listening to music with great sound.

3) Do you agree with the view that modern media is all about 'style over substance'? What does this expression mean?
I do partly agree that media is all about a certain style as people are now able to show themselves off for what they are through the media, for example having followers on instagram, through showing off what they wear what kind of brands they buy and associate themselves with.

4) Explain Baudrillard's theory of 'media saturation' in one paragraph. You may need to research it online to find out more.
Media saturation is media involving most people that associate with the internet and going online, watching tv and other factors. We are currently in a media situated time as everybody uses the internet and plays a part and has an interest and would need it mostly on a day to day base e.g. looking at emails.

5) Is your presence on social media an accurate reflection of who you are? Have you ever added or removed a picture from a social media site purely because of what it says about the type of person you are?
On social networking sites it does describe and show a rough reflection of myself as i do like the posts i have an interest in and post pictures or stuff i am genuinely interested in.

6) What is your opinion on 'data mining'? Are you happy for companies to sell you products based on your social media presence and online search terms? Is this an invasion of privacy?
I don't mind having the information like what i've been liking to be sold to other companies as it does not really bother me.
